It's not the best game I've ever played and I wasn't 'shook' after the most dramatic scenes, but I enjoyed almost every minute of my 5 hours so far. It's got very good voice acting, decent animation, vey good level design, and quite funky and cool moments and set pieces. I definitely recommend getting the game if you can get it on the cheap if you haven't played it and like 3rd person shooters. I liked that the player and his men look increasingly messed up and that there is strain within the little Delta Force squad. Overall it's quite a bizzare experience, but good. Mind you, maybe I just suck and it's possible to pass whole sections this way. One criticism: I wish using the silenced weapon was a bit more useful than taking out one or two guys before it all goes to hell anyway. I highly enjoyed the fact that there are actual civilians running around in the game. In terms of choices (SPOILERS, skip to next paragraph if you don't want to read them) I let the soldier who killed the CIA agent live, I shot the snipers rather than either of the hanging men, I tried to save the CIA agent rather than the civilians, I let the main CIA agent burn, I didn't kill the civilians who linched my seargeant, I shot the imagined version of Konrad, and for some reason decided to go down fighting in the epilogue, although I'm not even sure why. I expected it to be even more in your face from what I'd heard, but it hardly qualifies as subtle.

Emotionally, I guess I might have reacted differently had I not known what the general plot and theme were, but I still felt a bit disturbed by the things I did as a player. I'd probably have been pretty pissed off if I'd spent в‚¬60 on the game brand new, but having actually spent 1% of that, it feels like a good deal! Nonetheless, it crams quite a lot into these five hours. Now, the game is short: according to steam I've played five hours. Both of them are linear games, but somehow Spec ops did a better job of it.ДЄ lot of people like to talk about the impact of the story. In CoD, I often can't find the NPCs I'm trying to kill, because they seem to blend into the background perfectly. I found it vastly superior to Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, which I know isn't viewed favourably anyway but recently played through, and the main reason is that I very rarely felt like I couldn't find the enemy or see where I was getting shot at from. Ammo is quite scarce - I actually ran out once or twice - which keeps you on the move and sometimes swapping for less favoured weapons just so that you can survive (give up your awesome shotgun for a micro-uzi anyone?). They're interesting to look at, even if the game sometimes forces you to kind of rush through them because everything is constantly urgent. They have different colours and layouts despite the cover aspect.

Actually, a word on those: I was highly impressed by the variety in levels, be they 'quiet moments' like the refugee shantytown you walk through, or full on battlegrounds ranging from a plane, yachts in the sand, hotels, a bar. Still, the music was fantastic, and if nothing else this game manages to give a good sense of scale and has very different environments. I knew about the white phosphorus and some of the details of the final chapters, just having watched videos on games worth playing. Like many people here probably, I had a lot of the experience spoiled for me over the years. Actually, I quite liked the messages in the loading screens in the latter parts of the game so didn't mind. Even though I was on normal, I died a few times and only once or twice did I feel like they were cheap deaths (as in, accidentally moving from cover or something).

What I do know, is that I enjoyed the shooting aspects quite a lot. I've played that game to death, and felt quite at home.

It could be considered a bit similar to Mass Effect 2 without powers as well, with 2 squadmates and conveniently placed cover all over the place. Having never played gears of war for very long, I don't know if that's right. It's been compared to a worse version of Gears of War in terms of cover 3rd person shooter, things like that. So, this game gets a lot of stick for having poor gameplay and mechanics. It was like 68 cents on kinguin so I figured why not and installed it on PC.
